What you could find on your farm

There could well be arable species in your field margins that are more rare than you think! They could either be hiding among the more common weeds or lying dormant in the soil just waiting for the right conditions in which to germinate.

This section helps you to predict which species are likely to occur in your local area by providing records of all the plants that have been recorded in your area in the past. The records come from large surveys of the countryside done over the last twenty years. Because so many arable plants are now rare in the countryside there will be species on the list you might not find, but there is always the chance something interesting is lurking in a corner of a field where no one has looked!

Click on your area to see a list of species that could be found on your farm. If you want to find out more about an individual species on the list click on the text and you will be taken to a species account from the interactive book Arable Plants - a field guide by Phil Wilson and Miles King >>
